Kickflip 101: Step‑by‑Step

What is a Kickflip?

A kickflip is a flip trick where the board spins along its length while you jump and land back on the bolts. It starts from an ollie and adds a flick with your front foot.

Gear Checklist

  • Helmet (snug + level)
  • Elbow & knee pads
  • Shoes with grippy soles
  • Board with properly tightened trucks

Steps (Learn in Grass or on Carpet First)

  1. Foot Setup: Back foot on tail; front foot slightly behind front bolts, toes angled.
  2. Pop: Snap the tail down and jump (like a springy frog!).
  3. Flick: Slide the front foot up and flick off the front concave edge.
  4. Watch the Spin: Keep shoulders level; spot the grip tape coming back around.
  5. Catch: Catch with front foot first, then back foot; bend knees to land softly.

Common Fixes

  • Board flies forward? Jump straight up and keep shoulders parallel to board.
  • Half‑flips? Sharper flick off the concave, not straight down.
  • No pop? Practice 10 clean ollies before each try.
